This March Greenville has the privilege of hosting the SEC Women’s Basketball Tournament for the eighth year and we are looking forward to seeing some of our favorite guests as they return to cheer on their teams. While basketball may dominate the headlines right now, you need to know Greenville and the surrounding areas have plenty of sports for you to enjoy all year long.
Of course, Greenville has the Swamp Rabbit Trail that runs north of the beautiful Furman University Campus, through Greenville’s downtown, into Conestee Nature Preserve, and over to Bridgeway station in Simpsonville. This multi-use trail welcomes running, walking, cycling, rollerblading, and skateboards as well as e-bikes. Parking, restaurants, shopping, points of interest, and bathrooms are found across the 28 miles of trails. We make traveling with your bikes easy, by providing space to lock them up on Pettigru property. If you don’t want to travel with your own bike, we are happy to send you to our friends at Reedy Rides to rent one during your visit.
While it may have a funny name, players of all ages take their Pickleball seriously! The park with the largest number of courts in the area is East Riverside Park in Greer with 18 courts. Closer to the inn is PKL Park near Unity Park, featuring 8 lighted pickleball courts, four micro restaurants, and live music. Southside Park in Simpsonville and Timmons Park by Furman both have impressive courts as well.
Now is probably a good time to talk about the Greenville city and county parks with more than 400 acres inside of 90 parks. You will have the opportunity to play tennis, disc golf, basketball, as well as enjoy volleyball and open spaces for kicking around a soccer ball.
Golfing is another pastime many of our guests enjoy and fortunately, there are plenty of ways to do that as well. Ranging from free mini golf at McPherson Park or 18 holes at Timmons Park to the Preserves at Verde Greens. If you love golf but are looking for a casual atmosphere you could try 3’s Greenville or Topgolf (I’ve never even golfed but I love it here!).
All this and we haven’t even mentioned hiking to waterfalls or all the swimming and boating options nearby! We’ll talk about that another time, but if you really can’t wait check-out UpcountrySC they have great information to get you started on those adventures.
Greenville parks are great for leisurely strolls along creeks and gardens, but don’t forget all the other sports and activities that you can play to get your heart pumping! Whether you’re a power walker (heading into some of our unique shops) or want the adrenaline rush of ziplining at Flying Rabbit Adventures Greenville will certainly keep you busy.
