With multiple performing arts venues, tasty restaurants, an adorable zoo, the Swamp Rabbit Trail, shops galore all wrapped up in one twinkle light tree lined city, Greenville is a sweet place to be! What could make it sweeter than that? Chocolate, obviously. Whether you like that perfect slice of cake or a chocolate cocktail, Greenville has it all covered. Listed in order of how close they are to Pettigru Place, here are our top (with a couple of bonuses!) favorite chocolate desserts around
- Hot Chocolate- Kilwins is consistently voted as one of THE places to go for a warm cup of hot chocolate. And may I suggest grabbing a chocolate covered Oreo for dunking?
- Ice cream – James Beard award winning Jeni’s Ice Cream has a store front and I don’t miss an opportunity to get the Blackout Chocolate Cake (Chocolate ice cream quadruple threat with cake, extra-bitter fudge, and chocolate pieces). Bonus- The Honest Scoop is a hometown ice creamery that uses not only produce from local farms, but local honeys and dairy among other local ingredients. The trick is to find the custom ice cream van, occasionally located at Unity Park.
- Alcoholic Milk Shake – Carmella’s has Death by Chocolate cool and creamy filled with chocolate vodka, crème de cacao, and chocolate gelato.
- Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake – I am not saying I have a favorite on this list, but Brick Street Café has the Best Chocolate Peanut Butter cake I have ever had!
- Pie – While you can’t call the I-40 from Buttermilk Sky Pie a “chocolate pie” it certainly has enough to make this list. Filled with pecans, chocolate chips, a sprinkle of toasted coconut, and a smooth pecan pie filling combined in a sweet shortbread crust.
- Chocolates – LaRue Fine Chocolate has been voted one of the top five chocolate shops in America for two years in a row! While they do have seasonal chocolates (and cocktails while you’re there!) I am a sucker for the Sweet Kentucky – dark chocolate surrounds a salty, tipsy, creamy caramel.
- Chocolate Chip Cookie – The Chocolate Shoppe has been around since 1979 and is considered the standard for the classic chocolate chip cookie. Bonus- Insomnia Cookies, just off Main St, has warm cookies (and brownies) that you can turn into ice cream sandwiches or have delivered.
I would be remissed if I didn’t tell you about our “Famous” Pettigru Place Chocolate Chip Cookies! Baked everyday and waiting in your guest room.
